Whiteley Wanderers Club History

Katie and Stuart Gray founded Whiteley Wanderers Youth Football Club back in 1998 with one youth team.

When Katie and Stuart Gray moved on in 2001, the Chairman’s role was taken on by Clint Shephard. Clint carried out the role for a couple of seasons, after which Phil Moores became Chairman until he emigrated to Australia at the end of the 2007-2008 season.

Ian Binks, who joined the Club along with his wife Elaine in 1999/2000 season, took on the Chairman’s role in 2008 and managed the club through a period of unprecedented growth.

By 2012 the club had grown to 23 teams with around 280 players between the ages of 5 and 18 years old. Under Ian’s leadership, the club was awarded Community Charter status in 2011.

In the 2014-2015 season Hants FA awarded us the Charter Standard Community Club of the Year in recognition of our high standards of management and discipline.

Ian handed the reigns over to Kevin Fisher in October 2015 but maintains his involvement in football as County Welfare and Lead Respect Officer at Hants FA, as such he is always on hand to offer us advice and guidance.

Whilst Ian has moved on, his wife Elaine continues as Club Treasurer, a role she has now filled since 2001. Kevin Fisher then presided over the club for the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 season before work commitments forced him to step aside.

Kevin remains on the Management Committee and runs the newly formed adult team.

We now arrive in the 2017-2018 season, our 20th Anniversary, with around 400 players, one adult team, four girls teams, eleven mini-soccer teams and 16 youth teams playing across six different leagues. We have over sixty managers/coaches/committee members and helpers, who all give up their time freely to provide football for players ranging from 5 to 30+, but there is always a need for more help as the club continues to grow.
